Almazbek Atambayev: We managed to stop decline of snow leopard population

«We managed to stop the decline of the snow leopard population in Kyrgyzstan,» Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev said speaking at the International Forum on the Conservation of snow leopard and Its Ecosystems.

According to him, significant efforts have been made by the efforts of the countries of the animal habitat to implement the Bishkek Declaration of 2013.

«In the range countries, 23 landscapes critical for the survival of the snow leopard have been identified, and protection of these landscapes should be ensured until 2020,» the head of state said.

As the President of Kyrgyzstan noted, following the results of the Bishkek Declaration, established the Secretariate of the Global Program, which interacts with environmental agencies, and works with large funds for environmental protection. October 23 was the International Day of Snow Leopard in its countries of habitation.

Kyrgyzstan is taking measures to expand the network and improve the activities of specially protected areas to protect the leopards. Three specially protected natural territories have been created: «Khan teniri», «Alatay» and «Kan-Achuu».
