Sooronbai Jeenbekov tells why he resigned, but not go on vacation

Acting Prime Minister Sooronbai Jeenbekov told today at an informal meeting with journalists why he resigned rather than went on vacation.

The law allows me to fulfill the duties of prime minister and after the elections — before the inauguration of the president. Many of my colleagues tried to persuade me not to resign, but to go on vacation, suspending my powers for the time of elections. I weighed it all, thought it over and decided to ask the president to accept my resignation.

Sooronbai Jeenbekov

«The president supports this decision. During the elections, a full-fledged prime minister and a full-fledged government are needed. And, secondly, I go to the elections on the same terms as other candidates, and this is the most important thing. I think this decision is correct,» he added.

Today, the Central Electoral Commission registered Jeenbekov as a candidate for the presidency of the Kyrgyz Republic. The presidential elections are scheduled for October 15, 2017.
