Temir Sariev about Tekebayev and Chotonov's verdict: politically motivated

Today presidential candidate of Kyrgyzstan Temir Sariev made a statement.

«The rule of law is the cornerstone of statehood, the guarantee of prosperity of the nation. Countries where all are equal before the law, successfully develop, people feel protected, order in all spheres. In such countries, the most respected members of society are on guard of the law — judges, whose decisions are not doubted, who don’t care who stands in the courtroom — rich or poor, the minister or the oppositionist,» Temir Sariev said.

According to him, unfortunately, Kyrgyzstan failed to achieve the laws to be unquestioningly fulfilled.

Judicial reform failed. Our judicial system doesn’t evoke trust both within the country and outside it. It was impossible to get rid of the dependence of courts on other branches of power.

Temir Sariev

Temir Sariev believes that the completed trial over Omurbek Tekebayev and Duishenkul Chotonov once again highlighted the existing problems.

«I also had to participate in this process as a witness. I set forth the facts known to me, did everything as required by law. As for the whole process, I believe that we have witnessed serious violations, ranging from holding trials without the accused, to refusing to listen to important witnesses,» Temir Sariev emphasized.

The qualifications and moral character of many judges don’t correspond to their high rank.

The timing of the process was unprecedented and unjustifiably compressed. This court looks politically biased and much indicates that the judge was under pressure.

«In these conditions it is no longer important, what the verdict was, it was predetermined in advance, and the decision wasn’t made in the courtroom. Such courts undermine any confidence in the judicial system, respect of the citizens to the law, they cast us back,» the presidential candidate said.

It is necessary to put an end to this once and for all, to call to account both judges and supervisors who issue unjust decisions, to ensure the purification of the judiciary, the true independence of the judiciary and to establish the rule of law in Kyrgyzstan. I firmly intend to conduct judicial reform in a short time.
