The leader of Ata Meken party, the deputy of the parliament Omurbek Tekebayev was sentenced to 8 years of imprisonment. The verdict was announced today by the chairperson of the process Aibek Ernis uulu.

The former minister of emergency situations of the interim government Duishenkul Chotonov, who is connected to the investigation as the corruption case together with Omurbek Tekebayev, was also sentenced to 8 years. The court found the guilt of the accused fully proven.

The prosecution asked 10 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property to the leader of the Ata Meken party. And to the former minister — 8 years with the confiscation of property and the prohibition of both three years to hold public office.

In the hall there were shouts «Shame», and on the street the supporters of convicts shout: «Freedom! Freedom!»

According to GKNB, the reason for instituting criminal proceedings was the statement of Russian businessman Leonid Mayevsky that allegedly in 2010 he handed over $ 1 million to the leader of Ata Meken for a positive resolution of the issue with the sale of the mobile operator MegaCom, which the interim government nationalized. In this transaction, Duishenkul Chotonov acted as an intermediary.

The criminal proceedings in the Pervomaiskiy District Court of Bishkek began on June 5, 2017. The court took 2 months and 10 days to learn eight volumes of the criminal case and to make a verdict.
