One of the presidential candidates in Kyrgyzstan has two criminal records of fraud. Nurzhan Shayldabekova, the head of the Central Election Commission, said this at a press conference today.

According to her, such a person should understand his moral responsibility. «Yes, we have very liberal legislation and it is similar to international standards. But, speaking with international experts, I heard the opinion that in most countries this is simply not possible, so that a convict ran for president,» she said.

She noted that of the 59 candidates who submitted applications to the CEC, 13 presidential candidates have been convicted or held accountable. The Central Election Commission sent inquiries to the appropriate bodies to make a decision on them. So far only one presidential candidate has been registered — Temir Sariev.
