Cargo turnover on railway increases by 10 percent for 5 months of 2017

The cargo turnover of railway transport in Kyrgyzstan for five months of 2017, as compared to the same period in 2016, increased by 10 percent, and passenger turnover grew by 6.7 percent. Erzhan Nurakhmetov, Director of EEC Infrastructure Department announced today at the round table «Eurasian integration: topical issues and the development of transport and infrastructure.»

«We have railways integrated into a single transport system, their total length in EEU is about 107,000 kilometers," he said.

Erzhan Nurakhmetov added that after the accession of Kyrgyzstan to EEU, there has been recorded a positive dynamics in the main indicators of the transportation of goods and passengers. «So for five months of 2017, the volume of rail transportation in the Kyrgyz Republic increased by 15 percent compared to the same period of last year," the director of the department said.

Erzhan Nurakhmetov stressed that Kyrgyzstan is landlocked country, therefore membership in EEU allows it to get equal access to the services of seaports.

«A unified railway tariff is applied to Kyrgyz goods. And a result is increase in exports to third countries," he added.
