Glaciers of Khan-Tengri Peak to be cleaned of garbage

The glaciers of Khan-Tengri Peak will be cleaned of garbage. Public procurement portal reported.

The Republican Foundation for Nature Conservation and Forest Development plans to spend 2.9 million soms on cleaning the Southern and Northern Inylchek glaciers in Khan-Tengri Peak area. Waste on glaciers has been accumulating for 50 years of development of the area.

The main accumulations of waste on Southern and Northern Inylchek glaciers are concentrated in areas around traditional camping places of climbers and tourists. The camp on Northern Inylchek is located in the territory of Kazakhstan. Garbage can be scattered to the Kyrgyz side. In this regard, it is necessary to take a visual survey before cleaning to determine the boundary line.

Garbage is scattered over ice and moraines in the form of a halo stretching from the places of base and intermediate camps in the ice movement direction at a distance of up to three kilometers.

The glaciers are planned to be cleared from July till November 2017.
