Kyrgyz deputy dissatisfied with quality of draft law

The deputy of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan Ryskeldi Mombekov is dissatisfied with the quality of preparation of the bill on amendments to the law on intangible cultural heritage.

The law introduces the concepts of «national sports» and «traditional games." «In the process of globalization, they are subject to the constant threat of complete or partial destruction if not included in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. In March 2016, Kyrgyzstan presented the nomination «Kok-boru — traditional equestrian game» for inclusion in this list, so it became necessary to legitimize the concept of «traditional games," the background statement says.

According to Ryskeldi Mombekov,  the generally accepted term «national games» is used in all normative legal acts. «What are traditional games? And if tomorrow they tell you to compile the list of traditional games, where will you get them?» he asked.

After discussion, it was decided to return the bill to the second reading.
