EU hopes results of elections in Kyrgyzstan to be credible

The EU hopes that the results of the presidential elections in Kyrgyzstan will be credible. Deputy Secretary General for Political Affairs of the European External Action Service Jean-Christophe Belliard stated at a meeting with the Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Sooronbay Jeenbekov, the Information Support Department of the government reported.

According to it, issues relating to bilateral relations between Kyrgyzstan and the European Union, which are on the agenda of the upcoming fourth session of the High-Level Dialogue on Politics and Security of the EU — Central Asia, were discussed.

Sooronbay Jeenbekov stressed that Kyrgyzstan is firmly committed to democratic values ​​and principles, purposefully moving forward as a democratic and law-based state.

Jean-Christophe Belliard expressed the view that the EU’s relationship with Kyrgyzstan in the process of democratization can be called exemplary. «Now your country is preparing for the presidential elections. We, the EU countries, support this. The OSCE is also interested in supporting the elections. We hope that the results will be credible to the international community. This is very important for Kyrgyzstan, in particular for the image of the country," he said.
