Russia to continue developing its military bases in Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan

Russia will actively continue the development of its military bases abroad, Defense Minister of Russia, General of the Army Sergey Shoigu said at a meeting of defense ministers of SCO member states in Kazakhstan. Russian media reported.

It is specified that he referred to the military bases in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

The Russian Defense Ministry is taking measures to counteract the transfer of terrorist activity from Afghanistan to the Central Asian region. To do that, we increase the combat readiness of Russian military bases in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan; equip them with modern weapons and military equipment.

As he stressed, for this purpose, assistance is rendered to the Armed Forces of the Central Asian states, great attention is paid to improving their combat capabilities.

«The situation in Afghanistan is deteriorating; the military operation of the international coalition has not brought stability to the country. The state of affairs in this Islamic republic continues to deteriorate. The military operation of the international coalition led by the United States, unfortunately, did not bring peace there," Sergey Shoigu said, noting that the Islamic State gangs are acting in Afghanistan.

According to him, today the spread of the Islamic State is not limited to Syria and Iraq.

«The Islamist gangs are operating in Afghanistan, which has the status of an observer state in the SCO," he said.

Sergey Shoigu stressed that the strengthening in Afghanistan of the positions of ISIL militants, whose number reaches 3,500 people, is especially alarming. The strategy of creating an Islamic caliphate, implemented by this group, threatens the security of both Afghanistan and the neighboring countries.
