Flour millers disapprove abolition of VAT on grain imports

Flour millers opposed the idea of Kyrgyz parliament member Kenzhebek Bokoev to reintroduce VAT on grain imports, the Vice President of the Union of Entrepreneurs of KR Zamir Shaikov stated today at a press conference.

According to him, in 2015, after Kyrgyzstan's accession to the Eurasian Economic Union, all flour mills stopped their activities because of the glut in the market of flour that poured into the country through open customs borders.

So far, about 20 domestic plants are idle, and the rest work only at 30–40 percent of capacity.

«In 2015, the state exempted from VAT domestic flour producers in the import of grain. This helped to resume the work of more than 30 enterprises. Now the deputies again want to repeat the events . If VAT is reintroduced, all flour mills will be closed. More than 20,000 people will remain without means," Zamir Shaikov noted.
