95 percent of settlements in Kyrgyzstan located in mudflow-prone areas

There are 3,103 mudflow rivers in Kyrgyzstan. The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kyrgyzstan reported.

According to the ministry, the largest number of them is in the basins of Chu (479), Talas (254), Naryn (789), Kara-Darya (666) rivers, and Issyk-Kul Lake (375).

The danger is associated with floods of various origins, which are accompanied by a sharp increase in the water level, and the maximum river head transforms into the mudflows.

At least 95 percent of all settlements are located in the mudflow-prone areas.

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, an average of about 70 emergencies, related to mudflows and floods, occur each year in the republic, which amounts to 30 percent of all emergencies.
