Parliamentary Speaker - first from Kyrgyzstan visited Turkey after coup attempt

Speaker of the Parliament Chynybay Tursunbekov became the first politician in Kyrgyzstan who visited Turkey after an attempted military coup. This was stated by the Prime Minister of the Turkish Republic Binali Yildirim.

«After the well-known events in Turkey on July 15, 2016, you were the first of the top leadership of Kyrgyzstan, who immediately visited our country. I want to express my gratitude and I am confident that this visit will open a new page in our cooperation," Binali Yildirim said addressing to the Speaker of the Parliament.

Chynybay Tursunbekov stressed that «Kyrgyzstan is interested in an active political dialogue with the Republic of Turkey

»Turkey is one of the main trade and investment partners of Kyrgyzstan," the Speaker of the Kyrgyz Parliament said.

Chynybay Tursunbekov recalled the goal stated in 2013 — to bring the trade turnover between the two countries to $ 1 billion and suggested holding the next (ninth in a row) meeting of the Kyrgyz-Turkish intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation.

Chynybay Tursunbekov also announced readiness to hold the next plenary session of the TURKPA in Kyrgyzstan, scheduled for July 2017.

«We are always interested in developing relations with Kyrgyzstan. Turkey recognized its independence as one of the first and opened a diplomatic mission there," the Turkish Prime Minister said.

Binali Yildirim, referring to the forthcoming presidential elections in Kyrgyzstan scheduled for autumn 2017, wished good luck in their successful holding.

The parties also discussed the situation around the former international educational project Sebat.

The Turkish Prime Minister admitted that the situation around Sebat had its definite influence on bilateral relations.

He proposed cooperation in a new format, if necessary to use the potential of the state Educational Foundation Maarif.

Chynybay Tursunbekov is in Turkey at the invitation of the Chairman of the Grand National Assembly Ismail Kahraman.
