The Supreme Court of Kyrgyzstan will consider the claim on protection of honor and dignity of the head of the human rights movement Bir Duyno Tolekan Ismailova to President Almazbek Atambayev today.
In May 2016, Almazbek Atambayev criticized Tolekan Isamailova and the head of Kylym Shamy Human Rights Center Aziza Abdirasulova in his speech at the event dedicated to Mother’s Day, calling them «grant wasters» and accusing them of trying to destabilize situation in the country.
Human rights defenders appealed to Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek with a claim and demanded to collect 10 million soms from the defendant as compensation for material damage. However, the courts of the first and second instances denied them in satisfaction of the claim.
The representative of the head of state, Alma Osmanova, earlier stressed that the plaintiffs misunderstood the President — in fact, he praised them and pointed out that they were working off grants well.
Today, the Supreme Court of Kyrgyzstan is considering the lawsuit. The court allowed the journalists photo and video recording of the hearing.
