The Eurasian Economic Union plans to develop aquaculture to replace imported products. This was reported by the Eurasian Economic Commission.

It is noted that the implementation of the Aquaculture Development Concept in the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union will allow to increase production in 2020 twice — up to 350,000 tons. «This will lead to a decrease in dependence on imports in fish stocks, feed and other production means for aquaculture facilities, as well as to a balanced production of this type of product," Sergey Sidorsky, member of EEC board on industry and the agro-industrial complex, said.

In Russia, per capita consumption of fish exceeds 20 kilograms, in Belarus — 14, in Armenia — 5, in Kazakhstan — 3, in Kyrgyzstan — 1 kilogram.

Analysis of the fish and seafood market in EEU states shows a large production and consumer potential of aquaculture products. However, the development of this sphere is hampered by the lack of quality own fish stocking material, import dependence on feed and medicines, high wear of production facilities, insufficient use of scientific and human resources.
