Kyrgyzstan lacks funds for fight against HIV / AIDS

Kyrgyzstan lacks funds to fight HIV / AIDS. The director of the Republican AIDS Center Ulan Kadyrbekov told 24.kg news agency.

«The main funding of programs and the purchase of medicines are carried out at the expense of the Global Fund. Currently, financing is being reduced in the framework of the application for 2018-2020. A little more than $ 11 million is allocated to fight this disease in Kyrgyzstan. At the moment, we need $ 1.8 million," the head of the center said.

According to him, it is necessary to increase state funding. «In 2016, the government allocated 20 million soms for the purchase of test systems. The same amount was approved this year. But it is not enough for full-fledged measures," Ulan Kadyrbekov told.

«The state program on countering HIV / AIDS epidemic was prepared for 2017–2021. Now it is coordinated by the Ministry of Finance and other departments. If it passes safely, it will be approved. The Global Fund reduces financing annually, its obligatory condition is the contribution of the Kyrgyz government," the head of the center said.
