Nearly 9,000 children reside in foster homes in Kyrgyzstan

According to the Ministry of Labor and Social Development of the , 8,888 children live in residential care institutions, «Oasis» Public Charitable Foundation reported.

Institutions for orphans and children left without parental care have 1,080 children, from which an average of 450 young people aged from 15 to 18 graduate every year.

They face with problems of housing, admission to educational institutions. The level of education in foster homes is extremely low, it is difficult for them to adapt and integrate in society. Often graduates of orphanages become victims of human trafficking and crimes.

It is noted that the interdepartmental working group under the Ministry of Social Development developed a draft regulation on post-institutional accompaniment of orphans and children left without parental care at the age of 16 to 23.
