Ata Meken misleads public about presidential elections

Ata Meken faction misleads the public about the presidential elections. The lawyers of the Parliament informed 24.kg news agency.

Lawyers explained when the powers of the president cease.

«According to Article 63 of the Constitution, the powers of the president cease from the moment when the newly elected president takes office. Therefore, the reference of Ata Meken members to Article 61, Part 1 is inappropriate. Moreover, imagine that the elections (after the second round) are suddenly recognized as not taken place? The Constitution does not allow the country without president. Therefore, the provision of Article 61 that the president is elected for six years by the citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic is in this case a reference point, while the provision of Part 2 of Article 63 is decisive — the powers of the president cease from the moment when the new elected president takes office," the lawyers explained.

«In addition, there is a constitutional law, according to which the Parliament scheduled the elections for the third Sunday of November. Ata Meken faction voted for it, but now misleads people," they recalled.

Recall, today at a press conference, Ata Meken deputies said that according to the Constitution of the Kyrgyz Republic elections should be scheduled by the Parliament. The Parliament must announce the date of voting no later than on April 26. The presidential elections should be held on August 27.
