Presidential elections should be held on August 27 under Constitution

The presidential elections in Kyrgyzstan should be held on August 27 under the Constitution, and not on November 19, as previously the press service of Almazbek Atambayev reported. This was announced today at a press conference by MP Almambet Shykmamatov.

According to him, the President of the Kyrgyz Republic took the oath on December 1, 2011, his powers finish in 6 years. As Almambet Shykmamatov noted, until 00.00 on December 2, 2017, he is obliged to leave the post. Speaking about November 19 elections, the president was guided by the law, and it contradicts the Constitution, which says that only the Parliament can appoint elections of the head of the KR. When holding the elections on November 19, Almazbek Atambaev will have to take the post over the six-year term in violation of the Constitution," Almambet Shykmamatov said.

The CEC needs 20 days to count votes, three days to publish the results. Up to 30 days are given for taking the oath. This is without taking into account the second round of elections, appealing the election results.

«According to the current Constitution, elections should be held on August 27. The Parliament should appoint the date of the election no later than on April 26,» Almambet Shykmamatov noted.
