New CSTO Secretary General elected

The Presidents of the Collective Security Treaty Organization elected a new Secretary General of the organization at the CSTO informal summit in Bishkek. The acting Secretary General Valery Semerikov said following the results of the summit.

According to him, during the meeting, the Presidents discussed the military political and military strategic situation in the CSTO responsibility zone, clarified the tasks set during the meeting in Yerevan to counteract the challenges and threats, and made a number of proposals to counteract the threats that exist in the zone of responsibility of CSTO.

Yuri Khachaturov will become the Secretary General of CSTO on May 2, 2017.

Valery Semerikov told that the Chairman of the Collective Security Council Alexander Lukashenko informed about the priorities that Belarus announced for the period of its chairmanship in the CSTO.

In addition, it was decided to award the former secretary general of the organization Nikolay Bordyuzha First Class Order of the CSTO Collective Security Council.
