Alexander Lukashenko: EEU countries need to eliminate internal barriers

«The countries of the Eurasian Economic Union need to eliminate internal barriers and to concentrate on this in 2017," the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said at an enlarged meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in Bishkek.

According to him, there are many problems inside the union. In 2016, the countries failed to eliminate the reasons for the decline in trade. «This is the main problem now since EEU is primarily an economic union," the leader of Belarus stressed.

I think that we must make 2017 a turning point in the formation of our organization. We need to develop a set of priority measures, in particular, to introduce a moratorium on the adoption of new legal acts, which discriminate participants of EEU.

«The EEC should monitor this. It is necessary to listen to the report of the commission on the removal of barriers and restrictions on the domestic market during the session. This issue needs more attention," the President of Belarus noted.

«The geography of the union is expanding. The construction of a single economic space finds understanding and response in other states of the region. This is evidenced by the statements of the President of Moldova on granting the republic the status of observer in EEU and the desire of the states to create a free economic zone with EEU. But one thing is to conclude an agreement, and quite another is to put it into practice. I want to note that the conclusion of agreements on the establishment of free trade with third countries meets the interests of Belarus," he added.
