Ombudsman asks President of Kyrgyzstan to drop lawsuits against journalists

Ombudsman of Kyrgyzstan Kubat Otorbaev asks the President Almazbek Atambayev to drop lawsuits against journalists. He stated this to 24.kg news agency.

According to him, proceedings against the media negatively affect the situation with freedom of expression and undermine the basis for the protection of human rights in the republic.

«We did not react immediately, because we studied the question. Now I can say: we are very concerned about this trend. We call on the courts to lift the seizure of accounts of Azattyk and Zanoza.kg and ask the President to drop the lawsuits," the Ombudsman said.

On March 24, Almazbek Atambayev, responding to the question of 24.kg news agency said that he was not going to drop litigation with journalists.
