Eurasian Development Bank interested in public-private partnership projects

The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) is interested in projects on the basis of public-private partnership. Chairman of the EDB Dmitry Pankin said, speaking at the plenary session of the IV Infrastructure Congress «Russian Week of PPP.»

According to him, priority is placed on road infrastructure and housing, communal services. The head of EDB noted that the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (ЕEU), except for Armenia, have already formed the legislative base for such a format of implementation of projects. But there are few of them.

«A well-developed regulatory framework is not the only and sufficient condition for increasing the share of private capital in investment projects on terms of co-investment with the state. The participants of PPP market face challenges in developing effective practical tools in the development of the mechanism of such co-investment," the EDB notes.

The law on PPP has been adopted a long time ago in Kyrgyzstan. However, there are no such projects in this area so far. Prime Minister Sooronbay Jeenbekov repeatedly criticized officials for sluggishness, ignorance of the law on public-private partnership and unwillingness to attract investors.
