Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan settle issue on statements of Almazbek Atambayev

Kazakh Foreign Affairs Minister Kairat Abdrakhmanov, who attended the meeting, assured that there was nothing to worry about: the incident was settled through meetings and negotiations in the Foreign Ministries of both countries and the presidential administration.

«An intergovernmental meeting finished in Bishkek, where all the above-mentioned issues were discussed, including issues related to transboundary rivers and water issues. Personally, as Minister of Foreign Affairs, I am satisfied with the level of relations that I have with my Kyrgyz colleagues at all levels. I think this all meets the interests of our peoples, our foreign policy priorities, and in the end we all live in the same economic space," the Foreign Minister stressed.

Recall, Almazbek Atambayev, responding to a question from Euronews correspondent, if he thinks that the EEU reflects the interests of  most of all, answered: «We need to trade with someone, we need to work with our neighbors somehow. If we don’t join the Eurasian Economic Union, a blockade would threaten us. In 2010, when  made us a blockade for 1.5 months, we even had human casualties. It was, because the blockade is a bad thing.»

After that, the Kazakh Foreign Ministry demanded explanations and presented a note to the Kyrgyz diplomat expressing «surprise and disagreement over the statement of the President of Kyrgyzstan on February 17, on the Euronews TV channel.
