Tekebayev’s case. European Union to monitor situation

The European Union will closely monitor the situation in the case of the detained leader of the Ata Meken faction Omurbek Tekebayev, the press service of the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini reported.

Mission representatives expect that all procedures will be held in accordance with international standards and recalls the visit of President Almazbek Atambayev in Brussels, where he convinced EU leaders that Kyrgyzstan respects the highest standards of democracy and makes every effort to carry out open and fair presidential elections.

Earlier, the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly stated that it closely monitors the situation around the case of the leader of the opposition faction Ata Meken.

Omurbek Tekebayev was arrested on February 27 for two months and imprisoned in the detention center of GKNB. He is accused of corruption and fraud.
