Vladimir Putin's visit not be canceled because of protests

The planned for February 28 visit of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin to Kyrgyzstan remains in force. Press service of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic informed 24.kg news agency.

Recall, a criminal case was opened on February 25 against MP Omurbek Tekebayev. Prosecutor General’s Office accuses the deputy of corruption and fraud. He was arrested and is in the State Committee for National Security.

Rallies in his support are held in Bishkek and regions of the country. His supporters are going to hold protest at the White House today afternoon.

Earlier, former chief of staff of the interim government Edil Baisalov asked the President Almazbek Atambayev not to escalate the situation before Putin’s visit.

As part of the visit, Vladimir Putin and Almazbek Atambayev will hold talks, during which they will discuss the whole range of bilateral Kyrgyz-Russian relations, the implementation of joint projects, as well as prospects for further cooperation on the whole range of cooperation issues, including in the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union.
