Foreign Ministry officials and UN discuss conservation of snow leopard

Foreign Ministry officials and the UN discussed conservation of snow leopard in New York. This issue was discussed at a meeting of the Deputy Foreign Minister of Kyrgyzstan Dinara Kemelova with UN Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs Miroslav Jenča.

Forum for the conservation of the snow leopard population is planned for the third quarter of 2017 in Kyrgyzstan.

The global snow leopard and ecosystem protection program (GSLEP) is a joint initiative of the governments of the range of countries, international organizations, civil society and the private sector. Its aim is to secure long-term survival of the snow leopard in its natural ecosystem.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the sides also discussed issues of regional security in Central Asia, as well as prospects of cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the UN, in particular the possibility of improving the electoral system in the country on the eve of the upcoming presidential elections in 2017.
