390 villages of Kyrgyzstan have no clean drinking water

Residents of 390 out of 1,805 villages in Kyrgyzstan have no access to clean drinking water, the Director of the Department of Drinking Water Supply and Disposal Development at the State Agency for Architecture, Construction and Housing Askarbek Toktoshev said at a cabinet meeting.

According to him, the water pipes in 267 villages were laid in the 1950-60s of the last century, and in 595 villages — after 1965.

At present, only 33 percent of villages in the country receive water round the clock, 13 percent receive it 4–12 hours per day, 22 percent of settlements have no clean water, to the rest the water is supplied at least 4 hours a day.

" 657 villages need a complete restoration of water supply, 595 need repair of the water supply system. According to our calculations, it will take 26 billion soms," Askarbek Toktoshev said.

In general, the official noted,€ 89.6 million was attracted from 2001 to 2014 to improve access to drinking water. During this period, the problem of drinking water supply was resolved in 553 villages.
