KSMA expects about 1,500 students from closed medical schools

The Kyrgyz State Medical Academy (KSMA) expects to receive about 1,500 students who are being transferred from higher education institutions that failed to obtain state accreditation. KSMA informed 24.kg news agency.

Only Kyrgyz citizens are eligible for transfer to the medical academy.

«Students’ applications are being accepted by the Student Service Center, where their academic differences and the completeness of their documents are reviewed. On August 25, our certification commission will meet to consider the transfer of students. If any documents are missing, students will be informed which ones they need to submit. If students from non-accredited universities failed to apply within the established deadline, we will additionally convene a certification commission,» the academy said.

The KSMA noted that the Cabinet of Ministers is assisting with the transfer process and that additional premises have been prepared.

«There will be no problems in this regard. We are preparing for everything,» the academy assured.

Students at the Kyrgyz State Medical Academy will begin the academic year online on September 2 and switch to in-person classes from September 15, in line with other educational institutions.

Kyrgyzstan is undergoing a major reform of medical education following a presidential decree introducing a state monopoly on the training of medical and pharmaceutical professionals. Medical universities were the first to undergo state accreditation, followed by colleges.

Some medical schools did not apply for state accreditation, while others failed to pass the assessment and lost the right to issue state-recognized diplomas and enroll students.

Some higher education institutions received accreditation for six years, while others were accredited for only one year with a requirement to address identified deficiencies.
