SCNS detains Threads user over alleged calls to seize power

The State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan (SCNS) has detained a 46-year-old citizen of Kyrgyzstan. Investigators suspect him of distributing materials on Threads social media platform containing public calls for the violent seizure of power, the SCNS reported.

A criminal case was opened against A.A.M. under Article 327 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic «Public calls for the violent seizure of power using information and communication networks.»

The SCNS said that the man had systematically posted unlawful content on Threads. The posts contained calls for the violent seizure of state power and could contribute to disruptions of public order and destabilization of the sociopolitical situation.

During the investigation, the detainee admitted to being involved in posting the identified materials.

The man was placed in a temporary detention facility. Investigative proceedings in the criminal case are ongoing.
