Children with cancer in Bishkek receive vital medication

The Pediatric Oncology Department of the National Center for Maternal and Child Welfare has received a supply of medication for children undergoing chemotherapy, the department’s head, Sultan Stambekov, reported.

He said this vital assistance in the form of 960 prefilled syringes of Filgrastim, a life-saving medicine, was made possible through the Ergene Foundation with support from Americares.

«Filgrastim is a modern drug that stimulates the production of neutrophils — blood cells that protect the body against infections. It is used in patients after chemotherapy, helping the immune system recover more quickly and significantly reducing the risk of severe infectious complications. This allows children to continue treatment on schedule, reduces the need for hospitalization, and makes therapy safer and more effective. For many of our patients, this medication is an essential part of treatment,» Stambekov posted on Facebook.

According to him, the hospital has maintained long-standing cooperation with the organizations, which regularly provide medicines, particularly rare and life-saving drugs that are often difficult to procure through standard purchasing mechanisms.

The physician noted that the latest delivery is not only a major contribution to the treatment of young patients but also provides significant financial relief for the state budget and families undergoing treatment. The savings will be used to purchase other essential medicines, enabling the hospital to help even more children.
