Portugal defeated Uzbekistan 5–0 in the second Group K match. The game took place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
Portugal forward Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice. He opened the scoring in the 6th minute and added another goal in the 39th. Ronaldo became the first player in history to score at six FIFA World Cups.
Nuno Mendes (17’) and Rafael Leão (87’) also found the net. In the 60th minute, Uzbekistan defender Abduvokhid Nematov scored an own goal, marking the ninth own goal of the tournament so far.
In the 31st minute, the referee disallowed a goal scored by Uzbekistan midfielder Abbosbek Faizullaev.
The next Group K match will be played on June 24 between Colombia and Republic of the Congo.
In the third round, Portugal will face Colombia, while Uzbekistan will play Congo. Both matches are scheduled for June 28.
The FIFA World Cup is being held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. In 2025, the tournament was won by Argentina.
