Kyrgyzstan and Cyprus have signed a double taxation avoidance agreement, which aims to simplify business operations between the two countries and create additional conditions for attracting foreign investment. The press service of the Ministry of Economy and Commerce of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.

The signing ceremony took place on June 8 in Bishkek following a meeting between the Minister of Economy and Commerce of Kyrgyzstan Bakyt Sydykov and Cypriot Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos, who was in Kyrgyzstan on an official visit.

The parties discussed the current state of Kyrgyzstan — Cyprus relations, as well as prospects for expanding trade, economic, and investment cooperation.

The signed agreement provides for the elimination of double taxation on the income of legal entities and individuals of both countries. This is expected to make investment and business cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Cyprus more attractive and predictable.

The Ministry of Economy noted that double taxation agreements are an effective tool for attracting foreign direct investment and improving the business climate.

The document provides for measures to prevent tax evasion and abuse of tax incentives, as well as to develop information exchange between the competent authorities of the two countries.

The agreement also aims to protect residents of Kyrgyzstan and Cyprus from discriminatory taxation in the other country.
