24 percent of pasture lands degraded in Kyrgyzstan

At least 24 percent of pasture lands have degraded in Kyrgyzstan. Mirbek Duisheev, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Kyrgyz Republic, stated at a meeting of the Committee on Agrarian Policy, Water Resources, Subsoil Use, Ecology, and Environmental Protection.

According to him, the country has 8,985,813 hectares of pasture land.

«Analysis showed that 1,808 million hectares of pasture land have degraded. This is especially true for pastures near villages, as these lands are actively used throughout the year and are home to large concentrations of livestock. Meanwhile, distant pastures are not being fully utilized today,» Mirbek Duisheev noted.

He added that, according to a Cabinet resolution, there is a pasture development program for 2024-2029.

«In 2025, around 400,000 hectares of pasture land were left to rest, and in 2026 it is planned to leave 335,000 hectares,» Mirbek Duisheev noted.
