Emomali Rahmon congratulates Kyrgyzstan on election to UN Security Council

Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon sent a congratulatory telegram to President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov on the country’s election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2027-2028.

He noted that he views this event as evidence of Kyrgyzstan’s high international standing and recognition of its foreign policy on the global stage.

Emomali Rahmon expressed confidence that Kyrgyzstan’s activities in the UN Security Council will give additional impetus to joint efforts to strengthen regional and global stability and security.

For the first time in its history, Kyrgyzstan has been elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. The republic will serve on one of the international organization’s principal organs for 2027-2028.

The vote took place on June 3 at the UN General Assembly in New York. 142 states voted in favor of Kyrgyzstan’s candidacy. The Philippines, which competed for a seat on the Security Council, received 49 votes.
