The Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Kyrgyz Republic (MES) continues efforts to reclaim uranium tailings sites and ensure environmental safety across the regions, the ministry reported.
It currently oversees 60 radioactive and toxic sites, including 33 tailings dumps and 27 waste rock dumps, with a total volume of about 11 million cubic meters.
The ministry noted that large-scale projects aimed at reducing environmental risks and improving public safety are ongoing in various regions of the country as part of efforts to neutralize hazardous waste.
The MES press center noted that rehabilitation measures form part of the state’s long-term strategy to protect the environment and prevent the negative consequences of radioactive contamination.
