Number of road accidents involving scooters, mopeds increased 12-fold in Bishkek

In 2025, about 682 road accidents involving scooters were recorded in the capital, with 756 injuries and 14 fatalities—significantly higher than in 2022. It was reported at a road safety forum for scooter, moped, and personal mobility vehicle drivers. Participants discussed the increase in road accidents over the past four years and measures to prevent them.

Representatives of the Patrol Police Department presented statistics for 2022–2025:

Scooter drivers:

2022–55 road accidents, 62 injured, no fatalities;
2023–68 road accidents, 73 injured, 2 fatalities;
2024 — 393 road accidents, 438 injured, 7 fatalities;
2025 — 682 road accidents, 756 injured, 14 fatalities.

Electric scooter and other self-propelled vehicle drivers:

2022 — 14 road accidents, 14 injured;
2023 — 10 road accidents, 10 injured;
2024 — 108 road accidents, 115 injured;
2025 — 93 road accidents, 100 injured, 1 fatality.

Motorcyclists:

2022 — 19 road accidents, 17 injured, 2 fatalities;
2023 — 31 road accidents, 37 injured, 1 fatality;
2024 — 60 road accidents, 71 injured, 4 fatalities;
2025 — 72 accidents, 80 injured, 2 fatalities.

Forum participants, including motorcycle clubs and activists, emphasized the importance of such events to increase awareness of traffic rules and road safety.

Preventive campaigns, seminars, and outreach work with drivers and passengers will continue to reduce the number of road accidents in the city.
