Kyrgyzstan may introduce a full ban on plastic bags and a number of other plastic products starting in 2027, the Ministry of Natural Resources reported.
According to the ministry, large-scale reforms have been underway since 2023 to develop waste recycling systems and reduce environmental harm.
Two key laws have already been adopted providing for a gradual restriction of plastic use. A pilot initiative has been launched in Issyk-Kul region, where public awareness campaigns are being conducted.
Experts note that the culture of waste sorting and recycling in the country remains at a low level. Burning plastic is considered particularly dangerous, as it leads to air pollution and has negative health effects.
Specialists are urging citizens to increase environmental awareness and reduce the use of plastic products.
