On the instructions of President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers — Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry Erlist Akunbekov led a delegation to the All-Russian Research Institute for Animal Health, which operates under Rosselkhoznadzor in Vladimir.
During the visit, the Kyrgyz delegation reviewed the institute’s activities, including its research and production base, as well as modern technologies for developing and manufacturing vaccines and veterinary medicines. Particular attention was paid to laboratory work on monitoring and controlling especially dangerous animal diseases.
The sides discussed the current epizootic situation in the region and measures to stabilize and prevent outbreaks. Special focus was placed on supplying Kyrgyzstan with vaccines to prevent foot-and-mouth disease.
Currently, the Veterinary Service for Livestock, Pasture, and Forage Development under the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic and the All-Russian Research Institute for Animal Health have signed a contract for the supply of 1 million doses of foot-and-mouth disease vaccine, which is expected to be delivered soon. Additionally, 3.5 million doses are planned for large-scale vaccination of farm animals by the end of summer 2026.
Erlist Akunbekov noted the institute’s strong scientific potential and its significant contribution to ensuring biological safety and combating epizootic threats. Following the talks, the parties agreed to establish cooperation in the study of fish diseases — an area of strategic importance for the development of Kyrgyzstan’s aquaculture exports, including to the Russian market and other international markets.
The sides also agreed to further expand cooperation, including not only vaccine supplies but also training and professional development for Kyrgyz specialists at the institute, as well as the exchange of expertise in veterinary science and biosafety.
