Kyrgyzstan limits budget deficit and public debt

The Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan has amended the procedure for forming and executing the national budget.

According to the resolution, macroeconomic ceilings are set for the first time:

• the budget deficit should not exceed 3 percent of GDP;
• public debt is limited to no more than 70 percent of GDP.

These standards will be applied when forming the budget for the next year and the planning period.

The changes are aimed at strengthening budget discipline and monitoring the country’s debt burden.

The document will come into force in seven days.
