The volume of cash in circulation in Kyrgyzstan amounts to approximately 280 billion soms. Kumushai Artykova, chief expert of the Cash Management Department at the National Bank, told journalists.
According to her, the ratio of cash to non-cash money in the country currently remains roughly balanced. Despite the growth of cashless payments, including e-wallets and QR-based transactions, demand for cash remains high.
«In 2020, around 200 billion soms were in circulation. In 2024–2025, this figure rose to 240 billion. Now, approximately 280 billion soms are in circulation,» she said.
She also added that since 1993, five series of banknotes have been issued in Kyrgyzstan, all of which continue to hold legal tender status.
