Twenty foreigners, including 19 Chinese citizens and a citizen of Kyrgyzstan, were arrested in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, during a raid on a call center. The Khmer Times reported.
According to the media outlet, the foreigners were detained during a search of the call center suspected of fraudulent activity.
As part of a stepped-up fight against online fraud, joint forces in Phnom Penh conducted a series of raids in the Sen Sok district of the capital. The operation resulted in the arrest of 20 foreigners in the act.
The Cambodian government, which took office in August 2023, has committed to eliminating the country’s reputation as a regional hub for cybercrime. To date, Cambodian authorities have deported more than 50,000 foreign nationals involved in illegal online transactions and other illicit activities.
