The Department of Specially Protected Natural Areas is strengthening research efforts to preserve the country’s ecosystems. The Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision of Kyrgyzstan reported.

Specialists continuously monitor the state of flora and fauna, recording data in the annual Chronicle of Nature. To date, the department has prepared and published 500 copies of this scientific collection.

In 2024, all nature reserves and nature parks in the republic transferred their reporting to electronic format, simplifying data systematization.

One of the key areas of work has become the monitoring of rare animals. Scientists continue to monitor the adaptation of the brown bear, which was released into the Naryn State Nature Reserve on July 3, 2025.

The bear cub was found at two months old in Suzak district of Jalal-Abad region. Since May 2024, he has been undergoing rehabilitation at the NABU Kyrgyzstan center.

Before his return to the wild, the animal was fitted with a GPS collar, allowing specialists to track his movements in real time.

Kyrgyzstan’s system of specially protected natural areas includes state reserves, nature parks, and wildlife sanctuaries. Scientific research in these areas not only helps conserve populations of endangered species such as the snow leopard and brown bear, but also analyzes the impact of climate change on the country’s glaciers and water resources, the Ministry of Natural Resources noted.
