An increase in chicken egg prices is registered in Kyrgyzstan, with a dozen now costing 160–170 soms in supermarkets. Social media users have noticed the sharp change in price tags and are discussing the reasons behind the spike.
The Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry confirmed the increase. According to Uran Chekirbaev, Head of the Food Security Department, wholesale prices alone have risen by 2 soms in just the past week.
«Wholesale prices went up from 10 to 12 soms per egg. This was influenced by rising prices in Kazakhstan and Russia — we share a common market, so any changes in neighboring countries affect us. In particular, Russia introduced limits on wholesale sales,» Chekirbaev explained in a comment to 24.kg news agency.
At the same time, the ministry representative noted a positive aspect for producers. Last year, prices were too low, pushing small farms to the brink of bankruptcy. The current price increase, according to Uran Chekirbaev, will help farmers recover.
He also pointed out that Kyrgyzstan now produces enough chicken eggs to cover 80 percent of domestic demand. It is worth recalling that in autumn 2025, the ministry reported achieving full self-sufficiency in eggs and even successful exports.
