Prosecutor General not agree with Transparency International corruption rating

Prosecutor General of Kyrgyzstan Maksat Asanaliev does not agree with the results of the study of corruption around the world by the international organization Transparency International. He announced this at a meeting of the Parliament.

In the annual Corruption Perceptions Index 2024, Kyrgyzstan scored 26 points out of 100 and dropped one line compared to last year. Thus, the republic shared 141st place with Uganda, Guinea and Russia.

Maksat Asanaliev noted that India, Hungary and Indonesia pointed out the lack of transparency of the methodology and the fact that the study does not take into account the internal characteristics of the country and systemic reforms.

«Therefore, I do not agree with the assessments of this organization. Government agencies, including law enforcement agencies, are working in this direction. But at the same time, I consider the measures taken to be insufficient. We must strengthen them,» the Prosecutor General said.

Deputy Eldar Abakirov noted that foreign investors will take into account the indicators in the international rating before investing in the country.
