Participation of the President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov in the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Baku (Azerbaijan) has ended. The press service of the head of state reported.
The event was attended by about 50,000 people from all over the world, including the leaders of more than 100 countries.
The main topics of COP29, which will last until November 22, were measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, climate financing issues, technological innovations in power industry, education of the younger generation and support for youth initiatives aimed at combating climate change.
The press service recalled that Sadyr Japarov made a national statement at the conference on November 12, calling for coordinated and financially supported measures to implement the Paris Agreement. He proposed a mechanism for exchanging external debt for sustainable development projects and initiated the creation of a Climate Trust Fund.
The President emphasized the importance of renewable energy sources, noted hydropower and solar power plant projects, and focused on the melting of glaciers and threats to water resources. He called on international partners to support initiatives for the sustainable development of mountain regions.
On the sidelines of the World Leaders’ Summit on Climate Action, Sadyr Japarov took part in a high-level roundtable on climate finance organized by the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
On November 13, the head of state also took part in and delievered a speech at a High-Level Dialogue on Mountains and Climate Change organized by Kyrgyzstan jointly with Azerbaijan and Mongolia.
In his speech, he called on the international community to step up support for mountainous countries that are most vulnerable to climate change, despite their minimal contribution to global greenhouse gas emissions.

That is why Kyrgyzstan has taken responsibility for promoting the Mountain Agenda at the UN and advocates for the recognition of the unique problems of the world’s mountain regions.
As part of his participation in the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, the President visited the national pavilion under the general theme «Kyrgyzstan: Sustainable Mountain Development».
The pavilion, which is open to visitors until November 21, hosts daily presentations with the participation of the country’s ministries and departments on current issues of the climate agenda, energy, trade and economic, tourism and investment potential of the Kyrgyz Republic, as well as cultural events, exhibitions of national mountain products (honey, dried fruits, national drinks, etc.) and tastings.
Having completed his participation in the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, the head of state returned to Bishkek on November 13.
