At least 1,089 traffic accidents have been registered in Kyrgyzstan since the beginning of the year, in which 93 people have died. Deputy head of the Main Traffic Safety Department Emil Zhakypov announced at a meeting of the Committee on Transport, Communications, Architecture and Construction of the Parliament.
In his opinion, one of the causes of traffic accidents is right-hand drive vehicles. He recalled that a ban was imposed on the import of right-hand drive cars into the country in 2015. During that period, 1,822 traffic accidents were registered, in which 270 people died and 2,819 people were injured.
According to the Main Traffic Safety Department, 1,600 traffic accidents were registered in 2023.
