A law banning the use of animals in circus performances is coming into force in Uzbekistan. The corresponding resolution was adopted by the government in order to protect animal rights and prevent their exploitation.

The law bans the use of all types of animals in circus performances, including elephants, tigers, lions, bears, monkeys and others.

It is noted that the decision is supported by many human rights activists and animal rights activists, who believe that the use of animals in the circus is a cruel form of exploitation.

The ban will be introduced on January 1, 2025. The same document prohibits keeping of wild animals in state and traveling circuses (tent circuses) and their use in circus performances.

Animals included in the list can be kept in zoos and farms (terrariums, oceanariums, serpentariums and others) organized by legal entities on the basis of permits from the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change.

Wild and poisonous animals listed in the Red Book of Uzbekistan can only be kept at special farms.
