House museum of Alykul Osmonov opened in Bishkek after repairs

Alykul Osmonov’s house museum has been opened in Bishkek after major repairs, the Ministry of Culture reported.

First Deputy Minister Chyngyz Esengul uulu expressed gratitude to the President of the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation Aktoty Raimkulova for her support in restoration of the museum.

The museum has over 2,000 exhibits, including the poet’s personal belongings, manuscripts, and household items.

The last repairs in the Alykul Osmonov’s house-museum were carried out in 2000. Due to the lack of heating, the walls were exposed to moisture, which damaged some valuable documents, photographs, and items.

The building, where the museum is located, was built in 1941. The poet himself purchased the house in 1948 and lived in it until 1950. Alykul Osmonov is a Kyrgyz poet, playwright, and translator. He is the author of the poetry collections «Star Youth», «Cholponstan», «Love», «New Songs»... He worked in the field of dramaturgy, translated the works of Pushkin, Lermontov, Krylov and others.

The poem «The Knight in the Panther’s Skin» by Shota Rustaveli translated by Alykul Osmonov has been reprinted six times.

He was awarded the «Badge of Honor» Order.

He died at the age of 35 of tuberculosis on December 12, 1950.
