Kumtor remains an additional source of income. The head of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Japarov said at the National Development Forum 2024.

According to him, economic indicators are developing without the mining company.

«If earlier our economy depended on Kumtor, now we see that the indicators are developing without it,» he noted.

At present, the country’s leadership adheres to the principles of the unity of the people and the need to pay taxes on time, Akylbek Japarov said.

«When new taxes were introduced, skepticism arose, but today we see how the situation is leveling out and trust in the authorities is strengthening. I appeal to international organizations: the country is implementing a balanced monetary policy. As a result, inflation decreased from 14.7 percent in 2022 to 3.4 percent in 2024. The Kyrgyz som has strengthened, and the dollar exchange rate has dropped to 85 soms,» he noted.
